McInerney Homes secures planning for Widnes scheme

MCINERNEY Homes, the Irish housebuilder whose UK headquarters are in Wigan, has secured planning consent for a development of 20 affordable homes on a 1.2-acre site off Mill Lane in Widnes.

The firm was advised by a new land & planning team in consultancy firm GL Hearn’s Manchester office, which found the necessary site and put together a case to change use for land previously earmarked for employment use to be converted into residential. The work will involve remediation of a previously contaminated site. Construction is expected to start early next year and be complete by the end of the year.

Andy Garnett, land manager at McInerney Homes, said: “We have worked with the team at GL Hearn on several other sites across the North West. They provide a comprehensive individual site-finding service with expert planning advice on hand throughout the whole process. We look forward to working with the Manchester team on future projects.”

Shaun Taylor, planning associate director at GL Hearn, added: “This is the first of many such projects that we have in the pipeline”

“As a result of the recession, many housebuilders have a depleted in-house land buying department. “We have been able to bridge that gap and we are now working with active housebuilders on both a regional and national level.”
