Plans for housing scheme on former school site go out for consultation

Plans for a scheme to bring 70 affordable homes to the former Monkscroft School site in Cheltenham have gone out for public consultation.

Residents are encouraged to view the scheme and offer feedback before the consultation ends on March 12.

Monkscroft Primary School closed in 2008 and was demolished in 2009.

Residents living in very close proximity to the area will receive an invite in the post, containing details and a QR link directly to the online consultation.

In addition to the online consultation there will be an in-person public exhibition on March 7 at Hester’s Way Community Resource Centre.

Residents can drop in between 2pm and 8pm on the day, to view displays and chat to members of the team, who will be on hand to answer questions.

The emerging scheme offers 100% affordable housing, comprising 70 new, shared ownership and social rented properties.

Cabinet member for major developments and housing delivery at Cheltenham Borough Council, Cllr Peter Jeffries, said: “In various locations around Cheltenham, we are working hard and at pace to bring much needed new and affordable homes to local people. We want to get people off waiting lists and into homes they so desperately need.

“This exciting scheme offers a wide-ranging mix of high quality, environmentally friendly properties to suit the different needs of local people and families, on a carefully and thoughtfully designed site.

“It’s important that we gather as much feedback as possible as part of our consultation and I hope that people will take the time to view the plans and share their thoughts.”
