A health and wellbeing platform has pledged to raise £1m for charities across the UK.

WellGiving based in Bromsgrove launched this month to create a platform that helps companies improve the mental and physical wellbeing of their staff. The platform gives varied virtual fitness challenges to users which can also raise funds for charity.

More than 60 sports and physical activities such as yoga, jogging, cycling and team sports are on the platform. Every time employees use WellGiving which is integrated with FitBit and Stave, they can build up charity points that can be converted into donations for their chosen charities.

3.5m minutes of exercise has been recorded across 1500 participants, with £65,000 raised for 25 charities whilst the platform was still in its beta phase. WellGiving says in 2022 it aims to raise £1m for charities across the UK.

Founder of WellGiving, Paul Rhodes, said: “With poor mental health costing UK employers up to £45 billion each year, we wanted to create a way to really address these problems, and could think of no better solution than a platform that not only promotes health and wellbeing in the workplace but helps fund the important work of charities across the UK.

“The WellGiving project is also helping to raise crucial funding for accredited charities such as Great Ormond Street and Teenage Cancer Trust, is immensely gratifying, and we cannot wait to see what 2022 has in store for the WellGiving platform.”

Funds can also be raised through corporate donations and employee-led fundraising through WellGiving’s JustGiving integration. Charities themselves can become WellGiving partners, allowing them to be nominated for target donations whilst being promoted through the platform.

Funding has already been secured by tech accelerator Betaden worth £50,000 alongside funding from School for Social Entrepreneurs and Impact Central. The app, developed by Green Gorilla Apps, has just been accepted on the Purpose Led accelerator run by NatWest.
