New footage released on Paradise progress

STUNNING new footage has been released on the redevelopment of Birmingham’s Paradise Circus as the massive scheme approaches its first anniversary.

With the first phase of demolition almost complete, a new drone video has captured the full extent of the site clearance as part of the Paradise development.

(See Video Below)

Filmed in September, the drone captured the demolition of Adrian Boult Hall with close-up shots of one of the high reach demolition machines in action.

As the drone flies over the site, it also captures the foundations of One Chamberlain Square, which has so far involved piles being drilled up to 20-metres into the ground in order to support the weight of the new building, which will eventually become the new home of PwC in the city.

However, as well as offering a close-up view of some of the last acts of demolition, the video showcases new views of some of the city’s most iconic buildings including, Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, the Council House and the Town Hall.

It also illustrates how the city’s landscape is changing and how the Victoria buildings are now once again visible on the approach to the city centre from Summer Row.

Preparations to divert traffic around the development site began in November last year with the demolition machines moving in the following month.

Now the old Central Library and Paradise Forum have been removed, the next phase of work will see the foundations of One and Two Chamberlain Square completed.

One Chamberlain Square is expected to be completed in autumn 2018 with PwC moving in in January 2019.

The public realm enhancements to Chamberlain Square will also be implemented in the next phase of work, together with the second speculative office building, Two Chamberlain Square, which has been designed by Birmingham’s Glenn Howells Architects. This is due for completion in early 2019.

The Paradise redevelopment is being delivered by Paradise Circus Limited Partnership (PCLP), a private-public joint venture with Birmingham City Council. Argent is the development manager.
