PICTURE GALLERY: First glimpse inside new Library of Birmingham

NEW images of the inside of the Library of Birmingham have been released.

The artist’s impressions show how the inside of the new £193m library in Centenary Square will look when it is completed in 2013.

The pictures, produced by architects Mecanoo, have been released as the first anniversary approaches of commencement of work on the building which now has the main service cores of the structure in place.

Images show a concept view of the new outdoor amphitheatre in Centenary Square as well as a first look at the central rotunda inside the library, which is being developed by Wolverhampton-based Carillion.

It is hoped the outdoor amphitheatre will become a popular feature of the building by offering the capacity for outdoor performance and activity which can be viewed by onlookers above Centenary Square.

In addition to these images, the new year will see the unveiling of a new ‘flythrough’ video which will offer the most in depth look so far inside the Library of Birmingham.
