National charity launches new £2.2m centre in Worcestershire

NATIONAL charity The Stroke Association is building a new dedicated ‘Life After Stroke Centre’ in Worcestershire, believed to be the first of its kind in the UK.
The charity has acquired a 11,700 sq ft office complex in Bromsgrove which will be refurbished and is expected to start running services before the end of the year.
The £2.2m centre will provide services such as communications support, family and carer support, an information resource centre, training programmes for stroke survivors, their families and carers and professionals.
A tender process is currently on-going to appoint a contractor for the fit out work.
The Birmingham-based office agency team at real estate services firm DTZ acquired the ‘Old School House’ property on behalf of The Stroke Association from previous owners Cemex, which were advised by BNP Paribas.
Senior surveyor Andrew Berry said: “The Stroke Association’s existing premises at Windsor House in Birmingham were no longer fit for purpose.
“We identified a number of potential locations for the Life After Stroke Centre with key priorities including, accessible location, capacity for services, training and meeting rooms and parking space.”
Lyn Dunkley, head of facilities at The Stroke Association, added: “DTZ helped us to hone our criteria for the centre and we are delighted with our new premises.
“Purchasing this freehold property not only meets the needs of our expanding organisation but shows our commitment to improving life after stroke for the thousands of stroke survivors.”
