Sandvik’s engineering factory sold in Coventry

A FACTORY in Coventry owned by a Swedish engineering group Sandvik has been sold for an undisclosed sum.

The 70,087 sq ft unit, in the Tile Hill area of west Coventry, has been bought by RA Shield Holdings Group on behalf of their Coventry-based production engineering subsidiary Woolley GMC Eng Co.

Property consultancy Lambert Smith Hampton’s Birmingham office acted on the deal which sees Sandvik disposing of the site in order to consolidate onto another larger plant nearby.

Woolley GMC specialises in the supply of ferrous and non-ferrous machined components and assemblies to customers in the diesel engine and power generation sectors, as well as construction equipment, off-road vehicle and agricultural markets.

Sandvik specialises in tooling, materials technology, mining and construction. Its UK headquarters are in Halesowen.

Alex Hanna, associate director in LSH’s industrial and logistics agency team, said: “This is a very significant deal for Coventry. It is also unusual in the current environment that such a large building should be sold to a manufacturing company.

“Buildings of this size don’t become available that often and it is gratifying to know that it will be used to continue the great engineering heritage of this region.”
