Wates Living Space has been appointed to carry out a repairs and investment contract for Tamworth Borough Council in a deal which could be worth £14m to the social housing maintenance provider.

Valued at circa £7m per annum, the two-year programme will sees Wates deliver housing improvements to 4,200 properties in the town.

The works include responsive repairs, planned works and gas servicing.

The appointment further expands Wates’ presence in the West Midlands, where it already maintains more than 30,000 properties for Birmingham City Council.

Spanning a two-year period with an option to extend for a third, the Tamworth contract builds upon Wates’ existing relationship with the council, which saw the business deliver a series of maintenance works between 2008 and 2010 as part of the Decent Homes Standard.

Wates has also pledged to use the new contract to boost the local economy by employing 60 local people, including a number of trainees.

David Morgan, managing director of Wates Living Space, said: “This contract represents further growth of Wates in the West Midlands, and we will look to integrate the improvements in operational efficiencies that we have developed with Birmingham City Council into our work across Tamworth.

“Our team is now fully mobilised to deliver high-quality maintenance works on behalf of the council, which will also include the involvement of our community liaison officers to ensure our presence brings lasting benefit to local businesses and members of Tamworth’s community.”
