Worcestershire construction group Speller Metcalfe has been named as one of five contractors to a new multi-million construction framework agreement.

The Private Investment Construction (PIC) Framework has been launched by healthcare property company Prime and Yeovil District Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (YDH) to deliver privately funded new build and refurbishment projects.

Malvern-based Speller Metcalfe was chosen as a contractor due to its experience in the healthcare sector, most recently through the development of the £22m Stratford Hospital in Warwickshire.

Split into two lots, Speller Metcalfe has successfully secured a place on Lot 2, which encompasses schemes up to £10m across the Central and South regions as identified by the framework.

These comprise:

•    Hampshire
•    Herefordshire
•    Hertfordshire
•    Leicestershire
•    Oxfordshire
•    Shropshire

Des O’Neill, group managing director, Speller Metcalfe said: “This framework is an opportunity for us to contribute to improved healthcare services across our key regions.

“Having worked for numerous NHS Trusts and private sector clients we are looking forward to bringing our expertise and extremely high levels of quality to a sector which continues to grow, particularly in line with the UK’s aging population.”

The four-year framework will be key to the delivery of a range of projects across the acute, primary care, community care and elderly care sectors – from NHS to private facilities.

Leighton Chumbley, chief executive of Prime, added: “This is a framework unlike any other in the sector and will bring vital sources of value for money private funding into the healthcare market. The calibre and experience of our contractor partners means we will be able to bring forward vital strategic projects for our NHS and private clients over the next four years.”
