Legal & General smiling as General Dental Council picks Birmingham for move

The General Dental Council (GDC) has agreed a new 15-year lease at No.1 Colmore Square in Birmingham as it plans to relocate parts of its operations to the city later this year.

LGIM Real Assets (Legal & General), on behalf of its UK Property Fund, has let 22,000 sq ft of space on the sixth floor of the 10 storey building to the regulator for dental professionals, where it will join existing occupiers including EY, Martineau Shakespeare and Hays Recruitment.

The GDC is headquartered in London but moving some of its operations into the new office in Birmingham, with plans to undertake “significant local recruitment”.

Ben Thacker, office agency director at Savills Birmingham, said: “This is a significant deal for the Birmingham office market and further reflects its growing attraction as a key regional city.  The GDC perfectly complements the existing occupier line up at No. 1 Colmore Square in line with Legal & General’s vision for fully upgrading the building, following a substantial capital investment.

“It is now one of the best prime office buildings available in Birmingham.”

Legal & General was advised jointly by Savills and Cushman & Wakefield.

The GDC was advised by GVA.
