Work starts on first phase of 35 acre logistics park

St. Modwen has started work on the first phase of construction at Tamworth Logistics Park, a 35-acre site located just off junction 10 of the M42, which could create around 1,700 jobs when complete.

The developer secured planning permission for 89,000 sq ft earlier this year and is developing three warehouse units, ranging from 12,000 – 49,000 sq ft. Steelworks will be erected in January, with the project due to complete in July 2019.

Construction of the first phase of development starts just weeks after the developer secured further planning permission from Warwickshire County Council for almost 480,000 sq ft of additional manufacturing, storage and distribution space at the site.

St. Modwen said it is accelerating its development of high-quality industrial and logistics assets, with a strong national pipeline of 1.5m sq ft of committed industrial/logistics projects, up from 1.0m sq ft at the start of 2018.

Gregg Titley, development director at St. Modwen, said: “Tamworth Logistics Park is a strategically important site for St. Modwen, as it exemplifies our commitment to identifying and developing excellently-located industrial and logistics space in the Midlands.

“Based on the current lack of supply of sub-100,000 sq ft buildings for distribution and manufacturing, along with the strong enquiry level we’ve already experienced, we’re confident that occupiers will be secured for the buildings quickly.”

As part of the Tamworth development, St. Modwen will create a new access off Trinity Road to service the site. A substantial area of existing open space to the south-west of the site has also been retained, providing natural wildlife habitats.

Savills and Colliers are joint agents for Tamworth Logistics Park.
