Anti-terrorism bollard manufacturer supplies landmark US sites

Safetyflex bollards securing Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta, Georgia

A Coventry manufacturer of anti-terrorism bollards has completed work to secure two landmark locations in the USA, including an Olympic park.

Safetyflex Barriers has installed its barriers at the Boardwalk in Atlantic City and the Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta, Georgia – the site of the 1996 summer Olympics.

The projects involved installing hundreds of Safetyflex Truckstopper bollards across the two sites, both popular tourist destinations, to prevent unauthorized vehicle access and the threat of any vehicle terrorist attack.

The Truckstopper bollard can stop vehicle attacks of up to 80mph in their tracks and has recently been installed in London’s Oxford Street as well as at Brisbane tourist hotspots the ‘Brisbane G20’ sign and the Wheel of Brisbane.

Marcus Gerrard, director at Safetyflex Barriers, said: “The popularity of our bollards is growing and we are increasing our global presence all of the time.

“We are very proud to have secured two world famous locations in the USA, both of which are frequented by tourists all year round.

“Our profile in the USA is rapidly growing at the moment and completing these two contracts is a major boost to that.

“We are looking to increase our presence around the globe this year as we become a key part of security plans against terrorism in major cities.”

One of the company’s first major contracts saw the team work to protect 22 venues for the London 2012 Olympics and in the 10 years which have followed it has worked across the UK.

Other projects in London include Horse Guards Parade, Canary Wharf, Tower Bridge and the 2012 Olympic Park.
