Parcels giant expands West Midlands operations

One of Europe’s leading parcels companies is expanding its West Midlands operations after completing a deal to move into a warehouse unit in Sandwell.

DPD, which already operates from a large facility in Parsonage Street, Oldbury, has agreed a lease on an adjacent 70,836 sq ft warehouse.

The unit sits on a 6.4-acre site located just 1.5 miles from Junctions 1 and 2 of the M5 Motorway.

It comprises six loading doors with eaves height of 8.5 metres, a 54,896 sq ft warehouse, a 14,356 sq ft loading tunnel with canopy and 1,584 sq ft of office space over two floors.

Matt Tilt, head of industrial agency at LSH in Birmingham, said the availability of the unit provided a rare opportunity in the region to acquire a warehouse unit with large yard, which accommodates HGV parking, and also benefits from excellent access to the motorway network.

“Given the severe shortage of industrial and warehouse units in the region with sufficient yard area, we expected there to be significant interest from potential occupiers, and so it proved. It really suits DPD as the company was looking for extra space and this unit sits right next door to their current operations,” he said.

“It is a good quality unit, in an ideal location, given the excellent transport links, for a company working within the parcel sector.”

DPD is a member of one of Europe’s leading parcels groups, DPDgroup, which is wholly owned by France’s La Poste, the second largest postal group in Europe.
DPD was represented by SBH.
