Site secured for new care centre

A Black Country-based care organisation is set to open a new day centre in Rowley Regis after securing a 10-year lease on a property.

The large property in Throne Road will become a multi-functioning day centre for Select Lifestyles, the Oldbury-based provider of support services for adults with learning disabilities and complex care needs.

The care group already operates across 22 sites, but was attracted to the Throne Road property by its size and large number of rooms.

James Mattin, managing partner at West Bromwich-based commercial property agency Bond Wolfe, said: “We are delighted to continue our strong partnership with Select Lifestyles, brokering yet another deal with them.

“This will return a building to useful life, providing a hugely important new resource for people in the area as well as providing an opportunity for further growth for Select Lifestyles.”

Richard Horwell, from Bond Wolfe’s commercial agency department, added: “We didn’t even produce any marketing material, because as soon as I walked around the building I knew it would be suitable for Select Lifestyles. I invited them straight round to have a look and then negotiated a deal which worked for both parties.”

Les Trumpeter, chairman of Select Lifestyles, said: “Our five-10 year plan is to open a day service within each West Midland combined authority council area.

“This is our second day service and will be a huge asset to Select Lifestyles as it will enable us to offer extended services to all the people we support as well as to prospective clients.

“We appreciate Bond Wolfe’s contributions to helping us toward achieving our plans, already having obtained several properties through the agency to date.”

Select Lifestyles says the 10-year lease enables it to have “big plans” for the large detached property. Planned works are already under way and the company is looking forward to opening the new day centre towards the end of this year – possibly in November.

The new Rowley Regis based day centre will expand on Select Lifestyles existing day services based in Dudley. Plans include sensory rooms, music rooms, arts and crafts as well as incorporating two large classrooms where Select Lifestyles will offer several vocational courses as well as lifestyle courses through the ASDAN educational charity. These will be available to all who attend the day centre, which will also offer courses to the people Select supports across its other services.

Ambitious plans for future growth have seen Select Lifestyles expand to operate from nearly two dozen sites since it launched in 2007 and the organisation says it is continuing to hunt for further properties. Its portfolio so far consists of purpose-built properties, once dilapidated buildings and churches that have been adapted for new use as well as a number of smaller family-style homes.
