Plans for 100-bed student scheme flats fail to impress planning chiefs

How the scheme would look

Plans to build a new student accommodation scheme to house 100 people in Selly Oak have been given the thumbs down by Birmingham City Council planning chiefs.

Ahead of the Council’s Planning Committee sitting next Thursday (13 February), planning bosses have said the proposed development, by Olton Developments showed “a lack of internal communal space, poor accommodation mix and excessive noise and disturbance creating an unacceptable living environment for the proposed occupiers and potential impact on existing businesses”.

Olton Developments had wanted to turn a two-storey building on Birkdale Avenue in Selly Oak into a four-storey scheme. The building had previously been occupied by the charity Sense.
