Join an audience with West Midlands mayoral candidates this Wednesday

You are invited to an audience with West Midlands mayoral candidates this Wednesday (March 16) from 10am-11am.

With voting to elect the next mayor of the West Midlands due to take place on 6 May 2021, join us to hear from some candidates bidding to secure the position.

The CBI, and other partners are bringing together mayoral candidates to offer you the opportunity to hear their plans and priorities, as well as providing a platform for you to raise questions to them directly.

The next election in the West Midlands is a key element of the region’s vision and prosperity. The mayor has significant powers and influences a key range of issues affecting people’s lives and businesses in the region including economic growth, transport, housing, skills and labour markets.

The mayor also has responsibility and oversight for the West Midlands Combined Authority’s £900m budget for funding infrastructure, regeneration and job training schemes to support the region’s recovery from COVID-19.

Another key role of the mayor is to serve as an advocate and global ambassador for the West Midlands region, helping to build trade links and attract inward investment, a vital element as the UK takes its position as a global leader following the UK’s exit from the European Union.

Mayors are genuine political heavyweights and are playing increasingly important roles in democratic life. They hold significant powers to shape local decision making and, as such, need to understand what matters most to businesses in their area. Please take this opportunity to listen to the mayoral candidates and ensure they hear the passionate voices of business.
