Building Briefs: Talisman, Overstrand, Fusion

THE next stage in a £1m redevelopment of the Talisman shopping centre in Kenilworth is now under way.

Six new apartments are being converted at Sexton House above the shops on the south side of the development in preparation letting.

Hugo Hawkings, chief executive of London-based project developers Discovery Properties, said further apartments could be converted at Sexton House next year.

“We continue to invest heavily in the redevelopment of the centre and look forward to welcoming the first tenants moving in,” he said.

“If the demand is there, it is also possible a second phase of development of apartments could be underway in 2012.

“We are also committed to continuing the redevelopment of the north side of the scheme and the refurbishment and extension of Boots is now well underway.”

THE demolition of the Overstrand Bridge in Walsall is set to get under way as part of the regeneration of the town’s Old Square Shopping Centre.

Demolition contractor Wates Construction will start a three-week programme on Monday to remove the redundant bridge.

It forms part of wider plans to redevelop the St. Matthew’s Quarter which include removal of the Overstrand nightclub.

Also in Walsall, preparatory work is ready to start on the largest hotel in the town centre as part of a £50m redevelopment.

The 100-bed Premier Inn, off Wolverhampton Road, is the latest in a series of new investments at Waterfront.
