City centre offices up for sale
The Birmingham & Midland Institute (BMI) is to sell off two interconnected city centre office buildings to fund a major refurbishment and configuration of its iconic headquarters building.
Commercial agents Siddall Jones have been instructed to market 93 and 95 Cornwall Street in the heart of the city’s professional business quarter as one property for sale.
Ed Siddall-Jones, managing director of Siddall Jones, said: “City centre freeholds are always hard to come by and we are already experiencing a high level of interest in this property.
“It is not often that two adjoining, four storey, Grade II listed buildings at the very heart of the business community come to market.”
The two buildings are predominantly laid out as open plan offices and have the potential for alternative uses, subject to planning permission.
93 Cornwall Street has 2,345 sq ft across its four storeys, with 95 Cornwall Street offering 1,850 sq ft.
Siddall-Jones said: “The property currently belongs to the Birmingham & Midland Institute which is a long established Birmingham institution. We are seeking offers in excess of £800,000 for the vacant premises which are immediately available on completion of the legal formalities.”
On completion of the deal, the property will be split from the BMI to allow the purchaser to acquire two independent buildings which share a common fire escape.
The BMI is an institution founded in 1854 as a pioneer of adult scientific and technical education and is recognised for its work in the promotion of education and learning in Birmingham.
A registered charity, it continues to offer arts and science lectures, exhibitions and concerts.
