A planning application has been lodged for the proposed demolition of a landmark Birmingham pub which has been the target of two suspected arson attacks in a matter of weeks.

The latest blaze at the derelict Bagot Arms pub, at the junction of Eachelhurst Road and Chester Road, in Erdington, broke out on August 5, which saw huge plumes of thick smoke fill the sky.

Seven fire crews, including 35 firefighters, were dispatched. There were no known casualties, according to West Midlands Fire Service.

The fire came after an arson investigation was launched by police after firefighters contained a blaze within a garage at the same site.

A statement in the planning application by PJ Planning, on behalf of applicant Blackstone Capital, said: “Blackstone Capital has applied to Birmingham City Council for a determination as to whether prior approval of the authority will be required to the method of demolition and any proposed restoration of the site to demolish The Bagot Arms.

“Demolition will take place no sooner that 23rd August 2021.”
