Tesco signs up to new retail development

Tesco has been announced as the latest tenant at a new retail development site at Sandyford, Stoke-on-Trent.

A Tesco Express will occupy a 3,500 sq ft convenience retail unit, while the site will be anchored by a Costa Drive Thru.

A further two units make up the development, one at 1,200 sq ft and the other at 500 sq ft.

Work on the site, which has a gross development value of £3.2m, started recently with completion of the Costa expected in November this year.

Cheshire-based Muller Property Group acquired the site, which sits on a prominent roundabout position on High Street and began marketing the current scheme in 2019.

Colin Muller, chief executive of Muller said, “We are delighted with the response from big brand retailers to this development and the opportunity it gives us to deliver high-quality units for the local area.

“We identified this site as having significant development potential in 2006. A number of historic planning permissions were secured for a range of industrial uses for which end users weren’t forthcoming, so we decided to revisit a different mix of uses.

“We worked closely with the local community and carried out an extensive consultation exercise which resulted in us gaining the support of the Sandyford & Goldenhill Residents Association and that ultimately resulted in a recommendation for approval in 2018.”
