Work starts on university refurb project

Contractor J Tomlinson has begun the chemistry refurbishment project at the Haworth & Physics East Building at the University of Birmingham.

The work is expected to take up to 15 weeks to complete and to be conducted in one single phase, while working around the Commonwealth Games 2022, to be ready for the new academic year in
September.

The £530,000 refurbishment of existing space within the building will create a research lab for incoming professors at the university, where new flooring and ceilings will be fitted, as well as replacing external windows and doors, and making mechanical and electrical changes.

J Tomlinson’s refurbishment managing director Iain Davies said: “We are excited to commence works at the University of Birmingham campus. Creating such a dynamic learning space will fashion a perfect environment for research. We are working closely with the university to swiftly mobilise works to ensure a timely handover is achieved ahead of the university’s September intake.”
