Recreation centre demolition starts to pave way for leisure centre

Demolition of the recreation centre at Castle Farm is in progress to make way for the start of the construction stage for Kenilworth’s new leisure centre.

The work which includes the clearance of the site is expected to take approximately four weeks and will be carried out by AR Demolition.

Michael Henderson, MD of AR, said: “We are pleased to be involved in the enabling works for this new leisure centre for the area, preparing the old site for the next phase of development.”

The Leader of Warwick District Council, Andrew Day, said: “We are delighted to have reached another milestone and are now looking forward to the commencement of construction of these wonderful new facilities in a matter of weeks.”

The multimillion-pound project, funded by Warwick District Council, will see the recreation centre at Castle Farm replaced with a new leisure centre featuring a sports hall, 80 station gym and fitness centre as well as a new Scouts and Guides headquarters.

Contractual negotiations for the Abbey Fields Swimming Pool redevelopment plans are now at their final stages, with an announcement expected soon.
