Consultation starts on next phase of Birmingham’s Port Loop

Birmingham’s Port Loop is seeking the views of the public once again as the next phases of new homes and public parks are unveiled.

Local residents, community groups and businesses are being invited to provide their feedback on emerging proposals for the canalside regeneration scheme on the edge of Birmingham city centre.

Delivered through a joint venture between Places for People and Urban Splash, working with landowners Birmingham City Council and the Canal & River Trust, the next phases of development will continue to provide a mixture of houses, apartments and affordable homes.

The plans also include two public parks which will provide large green communal spaces for residents and the wider community as well as further accessible canal towpath links.

Places for People and Urban Splash would like to invite the local community and key stakeholders to see the emerging proposals and provide feedback. A consultation is now open before the next round of reserved matters applications are submitted to Birmingham City Council later this summer.

A public drop in event will be held at Ladywood Leisure Centre, Ladywood Middleway, Birmingham B16 8TR between 1pm and 7pm on Wednesday 26th July and a public webinar will be held online at 6pm on Tuesday 25th July. To register for either event, watch recordings, sign up for project updates, or to find out more information, the public is being encouraged to visit https://www.port-loop.com/consultation-overview

Speaking on behalf of the joint venture, Stephen Boateng said: “We are looking forward to engaging with the local community, listening to their views as we evolve our plans for Port Loop. This consultation is a great opportunity for local people to find out more about our plans for the next phase, giving their views and helping to shape our vision as we add to this burgeoning new neighbourhood.”

The Port Loop masterplan seeks to deliver over 1,150 new homes in total, creating a vibrant local urban canalside neighbourhood for people to live, work and socialise in. Subject to securing planning permission, it is anticipated that the next phases of construction would start in 2024.
