Global energy group expands on Colmore Row

Octopus Energy is expanding its Birmingham footprint, thanks to a new office deal and the creation of 50 jobs.

The global energy group has secured a five-year lease on a 2,900 sq ft office suite at Hortons’ Estate’s Grade II* listed Imperial and Whitehall on Colmore Row.

The office will become the headquarters of the firm’s new national solar PV sales team and adds to Octopus’ first-floor suite within the same building, where its dedicated sales office has been based since 2021.

Imperial and Whitehall was originally built by Isaac Horton in the 1870s. Part of The Grand Hotel Birmingham, it offers sixteen premium, refurbished office suites which retain many of the building’s original features. Just one office suite remains available to let.

Nina Meeks of Hortons’ Estate, said: “We are very pleased to have leased additional office space to one of the UK’s fastest growing private companies. Octopus Energy is an existing occupier that has successfully established a sales and training hub at Imperial and Whitehall, creating many green energy jobs in Birmingham. We look forward to continuing to work together in the years to come.”

Neil Woolley, director at Octopus Energy, said: “We’re thrilled to be doubling down on our Birmingham presence. Having successfully launched a sales office here in 2021, Birmingham felt the natural choice to launch our new solar PV sales HQ and create more than 50 new jobs.

“Even with the increase in flexible working, employees still appreciate an engaging office space in a fantastic location and Imperial and Whitehall offers just that. Growth has already exceeded expectations, I’m sure we’ll need to triple down in Birmingham very soon!”
