Birmingham cricket ground plans to launch new training centre

Edgbaston Stadium plans to launch a new training centre for catering and hospitality, aiming to create job opportunities in the community.

The on-site centre, named Xcelerate with Edgbaston will be operated by Levy UK and Ireland, the sports and entertainment division of Compass Group UK & Ireland.

The Xcelerate initiative involves setting up training centres, like the one at Edgbaston, to support local communities.

Scheduled to open early next year, the facility will offer training in front of house, back of house, facilities management and IT digital solutions for aspiring chefs and hospitality professionals. It will also offer food provision training areas, classrooms and customer service frontages.

Edgbaston operations director Claire Daniel, said: “The centre will be equipped with cutting-edge technology allowing people to train with the latest innovations to provide customers and clients with great food and great service. We want to take the lead in training the chefs, event managers, receptionists, baristas and facilities managers of the future. And hopefully, some will go on to work with us here at Edgbaston.”
