Higgs & Sons appoints new corporate partner

LAW firm Higgs & Sons has strengthened its corporate team with the appointment of a new partner. John Heaton, a specialist in mergers and acquisitions, regularly advises corporates, owner managers, private equity houses and venture capitalists on high value and complex transactions. Partner Nick Taylor, Higgs & Sons head of corporate, said, “Many are surprised by the size and experience of the Higgs Corporate team. John’s appointment was necessary to cope with the increasing deal volumes and values and is a clear sign of the firm’s ambitions for the continued growth. John brings a wealth of experience and I’m sure will prove to be a valuable asset to the firm.” Mr Heaton, left, trained and qualified at Wragge & Co and subsequently moved to Hammonds.
 

Irwin Mitchell’s Bolt in Law Society appointment

BIRMINGHAM-based legal trainee Sarah Bolt has been elected to the national executive committee of the Law Society’s Junior Lawyers Division. Miss Bolt works in the commercial litigation and insolvency team within the city’s office of Irwin Mitchell. During the year-long appointment, she will represent members of the division by helping to develop the organisation’s governance, policies and campaigns. Launched in January 2008 for junior lawyers across England and Wales, the JLD is the part of the Law Society which represents all student members who are enrolled through the Solicitors Regulation Authority, trainees and solicitors with up to five years active post qualification experience. The JLD also provides junior lawyers with support, advice, information and networking opportunities. It also represents the views of its members through lobbying and campaigns both internationally and here in the UK.
