City centre tower owner falls into administration

THE company behind Birmingham’s tallest building has gone into administration.

Administrators from KPMG have been appointed to look after the affairs of Beetham Hotels Birmingham, the firm which owns the 39-storey Beetham Tower in Holloway Circus.

The business, part of the Liverpool-based Beetham investment and development group, holds the lease to the Radisson Blu hotel which is continuing to trade as normal.

The separate residential element at the top of the tower is unaffected.

Mark Orton, from the Birmingham office of KPMG, and Paul Flint and Brian Green from its Manchester office, are joint administrators.

Their appointment is in respect of the financial arrangements of the landlord and all 120 employees remain in employment with no redundancies expected.

Mr Orton said: “The hotel opened in January 2006 as the Radisson Blu Birmingham and has grown to become one of Birmingham’s premier hotels.

“It is managed directly by Rezidor Hotels UK under the Radisson brand, and this arrangement will continue.

“This is a quality asset in a major city centre and the administration is only due to the financial restructuring of the landlord, which is part of the Beetham property group.

“Existing bookings and deposits are fully secure; the hotel continues to take bookings and is looking forward to a busy Christmas period.”

The administration has no impact on other hotels operated by Brussels-based Rezidor.
