Great Charles Street site to move ahead
A SPRAWLING surface car park site in Great Charles Street in Birmingham city centre is to be developed as a mixed use scheme comprising a hotel, shops and offices as well as new multi-story car park, it is understood.
The two acre site at the Snow Hill end of Great Charles Street was mooted as a possible new site for Birmingham’s central coach station several years ago but a decision to redevelop the existing coach station site in Digbeth left the site with an uncertain future.
Now reports suggest the land will be developed in four phases over eight years after planning consent was agreed in principle
It is expected that a new pedestrian walkway linking the Jewellery Quarter side of the road with the rest of the city centre will be built into the plans.
