Work gets under way on Rugby’s Eden Park scheme

BUILDING work has started on a new development in Warwickshire that will create 1,300 new homes, community facilities and employment opportunities.

The Rugby Gateway project, now known as Eden Park, is a 300-acre site on the northern edge of the town which will be transformed over the next 10 years into a thriving new community.

The development will feature a new primary school, nursery, health centre, shops and include affordable homes for rent or shared ownership. Large areas of public open space will be incorporated into the design and much of the existing woodland on site will be retained.

In addition, 36 hectares of land is allocated for employment, anticipated to create 1,800 new jobs. Major new infrastructure will link the development to Rugby town centre and the surrounding motorway network.

As part of the scheme CALA Homes launches its first phase of properties on the site in the New Year. The 43-property scheme will be a mixture of private homes including mews style and coach houses, semi-detached and detached properties.

Darren Humphreys, regional managing director of CALA Homes Midlands, said: “This is a landmark development for Rugby and the wider West Midlands region and CALA Homes is delighted to have led the project from the outset. It is a great example of our ability to deliver large-scale schemes.

“We have worked closely with Rugby Borough Council and the local community to create an aspirational place to live and work. We’re expecting a great deal of interest when the first homes are released for sale in the New Year.”

Members of Rugby Borough Council have visited the site to inspect progress.

Ian Davis, executive director, said: “The Rugby Gateway site has long been part of the council’s core strategy and will provide much-needed homes over the next 10 years. We have been working with our development partners on this scheme for some time.

“CALA Homes played a large part in delivering this major mixed used development. This development will be a huge boost for the local area and will help shape the future of our town. It’s great to see building work under way.”
