SGH Martineau retains pension fund client in competitive pitch

BIRMINGHAM law firm SGH Martineau has pipped several rivals to be re-appointed as legal advisor to the West Midlands Metropolitan Authorities Pensions Fund.

The firm’s remit for the fund – which is administered by Wolverhampton City Council – will include the acquisition and disposal of properties, arranging and managing leases and real estate litigation.

James Speckley, a real estate and client relationship partner at the firm, said: “The fund is a valued client of our firm and a major property investor as well as increasingly a developer. We’ve forged close working relationships over the past decade or so both with the fund and its fund managers as we all work together to get the best out of its property portfolio.

“The fund is a major player in the property world, working its assets hard for the benefit of its pensioners and it is a real pleasure to have the chance to continue to work with it and its fund managers, CBRE Global Investors.”

A spokesperson for the fund said: “We have always valued the legal support which we have had from SGH Martineau, and the tender process has reaffirmed to us that they continue to be the right advisors for us whether judged on quality or value for money.”

The SGH Martineau real estate group accounts for a third of the firm’s turnover.
