Solid performance from Marston’s

WOLVERHAMPTON pub company Marston’s has reported an increase in both revenue and profits in the year to September 29.

The firm saw revenue up by 5.5% to £719.7m (2011: £682.2 m) and underlying profit before tax up 9.2% to £87.8m (2011: £80.4 m).

Its tenanted and franchised operating profit was up by 3.2% while managed sales were up by 2.2% on a like-for-like basis.

The firm built 25 new pubs in the period and says it is on track to build another 20-25 in 2013.

Ralph Findlay, chief executive officer, said: “These results demonstrate resilience despite the weak economy and very poor weather during the summer. All areas of the business achieved increased revenue and profit in the year, demonstrating the continuing appeal of good pubs and beers.

“The economy is likely to remain weak for the foreseeable future, but we have a clear, proven strategy which is appropriate for current market conditions, and which is achieving growth.”
