AN apprenticeship scheme operated by Staffordshire County Council has been named one of the best in the country.

The local authority currently has 428 apprentices on the scheme, which has been ranked 72nd in a list of the top 100 schemes in the UK.

It is the second year in succession has been named in the list. Last over 70 young people started on the scheme and the council intends to take on a further 80 in 2013.
