Inspired Accountants raise £2,245 for St Giles Hospice

LICHFIELD accountancy practice Inspired Accountants has raised £2,245 for its 2012 designated charity.

The local St Giles Hospice was the firm’s charity of choice for 2012 after a number of staff experienced at first hand the care that the charity provides.

Paul Bulzacchelli who is managing director of the firm, first experienced the charity’s work when his grandfather was admitted to the hospice for some much needed respite for his family.

He said: “The nursing care received from St Giles was incredible.  All the nurses and staff were extremely caring and provided the very best support. We are very fortunate to have St Giles serving the local area.”

Fundraising events included a sponsored walk, a half marathon and a general knowledge quiz.

“More fundraising is planned and we have already scheduled our next quiz night for Thursday 26th September 2013,” Bulzacchelli said.

Holiday Inn provides boost to Cure Leukaemia campaign

CURE Leukaemia has been given vital support from hotel chain Holiday Inn which has announced its partnership with the Birmingham-based blood cancer charity.

Holiday Inn Birmingham Airport has pledged to support the charity during this year and hopes to raise £20k which will fund specialist nurses to carry out potentially lifesaving clinical trials.

The hotel is planning to put on a number of initiatives throughout the year as well as setting up a donation scheme for visitors leaving their cars at the hotel whilst holidaying.

Kelly Talbot, director of sales at the hotel, says: “Cure Leukaemia does some fantastic work and has a very simple message which we believe will inspire our team and our guests to get behind our campaign; the more funds we raise the more lives will be saved.”

Jackie Kelly, general manager at Cure Leukaemia, said: “We are extremely grateful to Holiday Inn Birmingham Airport for its support and dedication to helping fight this awful disease. For every £1 Holiday Inn raises we’ll be able to access ten times the value in revolutionary drugs.”

Lodders’ senior partner hands over £10k cycle ride cheque

MIDLANDS lawyer David Lodder has wheeled out a charity cheque for £10,000 – the proceeds of a John O’Groats to Lands End sponsored cycle ride.

Senior partner and head of the agriculture department at Lodders Solicitors in Stratford-upon-Avon, Lodder is giving half each to the Heart of England Community Foundation and Mencap.

Heart of England Community Foundation is Lodders Solicitors’ chosen charity – it provides grants to deserving groups and projects. Mencap assists people with learning disabilities and provides respite for their carers and families.

Lodder said: “There are some things in life which have just got to be done and the 1,000 mile journey from John O’Groats to Lands End under my own steam was one of those things. I wanted to do it before I got too old to tackle such things, so it was a real thrill to have made it.”
