A&H gets Queens Square shopping centre gig

THE multi-million pound refurbishment of Queens Square shopping centre in West Bromwich has moved a step closer following the appointment of a contractor.

Fairacre, acting on behalf of Queens Square owners, has selected Halesowen’s A&H Construction & Developments plc (A&H) because of its extensive experience of working in the retail sector and its local knowledge.

Planning permission to revitalise the centre which opened in 1971 was granted late last year with work planned to start imminently.

The refurbishment design incorporates a glazed atrium entrance off the High Street and lifts and escalators linking to New Square Shopping Centre.

Melvin Glasby, Queens Square centre manager, said: “Queens Square has waited a long time for this refurbishment.  Following a competitive tender process, A&H stood out for both their experience and commitment to a top specification.

“They understand our demanding build programme from both the shoppers’ and retailers’ perspectives.”

Queens Square shopping centre will remain open throughout its makeover.

Robert Mottram, director at A&H, said: “We are delighted to partner with Queens Square on its refurbishment as it will change the whole shopping experience.

“We are committed to working with the local community and businesses on a day to day basis as it will play a crucial part in ensuring visitors remain safe and informed throughout the build.”

One of the first priorities of the build programme will be demolishing the High Street entrance to make way for the new glazed atrium.
