JLR uses Goodwood festival to give new Range Rover Sport its UK debut

THE all-new Range Rover Sport is set to make its UK public debut at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The automotive festival begins on Thursday and JLR will be showcasing the range’s most dynamic model, the 5-litre 510 bhp supercharged V8, the fastest and most agile Range Rover ever mass produced.

The 4×4, which despite its size, is capable of accelerating from 0-60 mph in 5.0 seconds flat, will be put through its paces on the Goodwood hill twice a day from Friday to Sunday.

The Range Rover Sport forms a major part of Land Rover’s largest ever Goodwood stand. Also exhibited will be the new flagship Range Rover, Evoque, Land Rover Discovery, Freelander and Defender.

For the first time, JLR is integrating its off-road course at Goodwood into the display stand. The track, which circles the stand, will see the new Range Rover Sport put to the test across various obstacles to demonstrate the new model off-road articulation, suspension-travel and Terrain Response system.

The company has also invited members of the injured soldiers’ team which participated in the Dakar rally to come along and talk to visitors about their experiences.

The Race2Recovery team gain global headlines when they became the first disabled team to finish the gruelling event. Captain Tony Harris (driver) and Barney Gillespie (navigator) will be conducting talks during the show about their achievements in South America.

Visitors will be invited to come and hear the team speak about how they overcame adversity to finish the toughest race in the world. In addition, the Bowler Wildcat rally car, based on the iconic Land Rover Defender which crossed the finish line, will be on static display.

Jaguar Land Rover’s UK Managing Director, Jeremy Hicks said: “The Goodwood Festival of Speed is a stand-out fixture in our annual calendar of events, and with Land Rover’s largest stand-to-date we have so much to offer customers from the off-road experience in the all-new Range Rover Sport to the inspirational Race2Recovery talks.”
