Sainsbury’s secures planning approval for Ansty Park development

SUPERMARKET giant Sainsbury’s has received planning approval to develop new office accommodation at Ansty Park in Coventry in order to support its future business objectives.

The business park is currently home to approximately 900 workers from Sainsbury’s Property, Telecoms, IT Test Centre, Learning and Development, General Merchandise and Clothing teams.

The approval, granted by Rugby Borough Council, means the retailer will now be able to progress its plans to develop two new buildings and associated car parking at the site.

The 900 people already based at the site will be joined by around 220 colleagues, who will be transferred from Sainsbury’s IT team based in nearby Walsgrave.

Bruno Moore, Head of Town Planning – Supermarkets, said: “Moving to Ansty Park and opening our Product Development Centre has allowed us to expand considerably. This has benefited Ansty and the wider Coventry and Warwickshire area, bringing a significant boost to local economic growth.

“We want to continue investing in Ansty Park to provide us with the flexibility to meet our future business objectives.

“We’re very pleased to have received planning approval for our plans. The approval means that Sainsbury’s now has the option of accommodating future growth at Ansty Park.”

The borough council has been keen to promote the business park as an employment site of national significance. It has said Sainsbury’s involvement was a significant development for the facility and one that would provide quality jobs for current and future generations of local people.
