Investigations continue into Wholesale Markets fire

INVESTIGATIONS will continue today into the cause of a fire which seriously damaged Birmingham’s Wholesale Markets.

No one is thought to have been injured in the blaze, which broke out yesterday afternoon, but at its height a giant plume of smoke could be seen for miles around the city centre.

The fire caused serious damage to meat and fish retailers in the market although the facility is expected to open for business today.

Around 40 firefighters from across Birmingham and the surrounding area were drafted in to deal with the blaze and roads in the city centre were closed off while the incident was dealt with.

The situation should be back to normal today although the area around the market is still busy because of the works going on at Paradise Circus.
