Accountancy firm strengthens position with merger

A BIRMINGHAM accountancy firm has strengthened its position in the city’s marketplace with a new merger.

MHA MacIntyre Hudson, which only emerged itself following last year’s merger between MHA and Bloomer Heaven, has completed a deal to absorb the established Edgbaston-based accountancy practice, Shoesmiths.

The decision is part of MHA’s continued expansion, not only in Birmingham but on a national basis following the recent addition of MHA Reid Williams in Reading.

Shoesmiths provides audit, accounting, personal and business tax advice to clients in a variety of sectors mainly within Birmingham and the West Midlands.

MHA said the business complemented its own and that the merger would pave the way for a better service to both sets of clients.

The deal sees Shoesmiths partner Elaine Shoesmith and five staff relocate to MHA MacIntyre Hudson’s office in Rutland House in the Colmore Business District.

Rakesh Shaunak, chairman, MHA MacIntyre Hudson, said: “Birmingham continues to be an exciting marketplace and we continue to see it as a growth area. Our Birmingham office is providing us with a strong presence in the Midlands region.

“Both firms have a similar outlook, are a good cultural fit and we’re confident that the firm will continue to deliver services to a high level. This merger will provide access to a wider suite of services for Shoesmiths clients and enhanced career and development prospects for all members of the expanding team.”

Elaine Shoesmith, who becomes a partner of MHA MacIntyre Hudson, said her clients would continue to receive the same level of service just from a different name.

“I am pleased that this development will enable me to continue to support my existing clients but now with the significant benefit of the added infrastructure and specialist services that the larger MHA MacIntyre Hudson group can provide. It is an exciting future for us all and I am delighted to be part of it,” she said.

Chris Barlow, managing partner, MHA MacIntyre Hudson in Birmingham, said the deal presented major opportunities for the expanded firm.
