Food for thought as Greater Birmingham gets another Michelin star

GREATER Birmingham’s growing culinary reputation has been further underlined with the receipt of its seventh Michelin star.

The ultimate guide to the UK’s best restaurants has announced Peel’s at Hampton Manor Hotel, in Hampton in Arden, near Solihull as one of its newest one-star venues.

It joins six restaurants in Birmingham and around to have received similar status: Simpsons, the former Jessica’s, adam’s, Carters of Moseley, Purnell’s, Turners @ 69.
Peel’s a fine dining restaurant, set in the original dining room of the manor house in the historic Hampton Manor. It serves the cuisine of award-winning Head Chef, Ryan Swift.

Tim Manson, Operations & Policy Director at Visit Birmingham, said the  decision was a further boost to an increasingly significant part of the region’s tourism economy.

“More than three-quarters of our visitors come here (77%) to experience our wide-ranging and accessible food and drink sector – whether it’s Michelin-starred restaurants, our growing street food scene, balti establishments or independent festivals,” he said.

“This news will also be welcomed by the region’s business community. Greater Birmingham’s culinary credentials are now an essential ingredient of our inward investment strategy, playing an important role in itineraries that we create for global companies relocating to the area and as one of our key target sectors for foreign direct investment.”
