7 things to do in Birmingham this half term

We know what you’re thinking – where did that term go? There is no need to panic about how you’re going to keep the kids entertained next week though. Head into Birmingham and check out one of these that we’re sure the kids will enjoy…

Pumpkin flotilla at Sarehole Mill – Friday 28th until Sunday October 30th.
Be part of Birmingham’s only pumpkin flotilla at Sarehole Mill and watch your pumpkins float across the Mill Pond at twilight. The family will be able to bring along pumpkins they have carved and see it float into the night. The event, which will start at 6.45pm will include a complimentary hot chocolate to keep you warm. Monsters at the Museum at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery – Wednesday 26th October, 10am – 5pm.
Parents can take their little mummies, witches and vampires along to enjoy a spooktacular ‘Monsters at the Museum’ day. There will be lots of ghoulish fun throughout the day including frightening face painting. Then there will be a Halloween party also taking place with ghoulish DJs and fancy dress prizes, with the chance to capture your costume in the portrait booth of fear. Find out more here.

Disney on Ice Frozen at Barclaycard Arena – Tuesday 25th until Sunday October 30th.
Hosted by Mickey and Minnie, the magic of Frozen is coming to the Barclaycard Arena next week. The family will be whisked away into a winter wonderland whilst singing and dancing along to Frozen’s massive hits. The show will include characters from Anna and Elsa to Olaf and Sven. The Frozen cast will also be joined by Disney princesses and characters from Toy Story, Finding Nemo and The Lion King. Find out more here. Spooky Science Night at Thinktank – Sat 29th October, 6 – 9pm.
At Thinktank prepare for an evening full of tricks and treats as the museum opens its doors after hours for a Spooky Science Night. With a full evening of spellbinding fun planned, children can get dressed as their favourite creature and take part in eerie experiments, a science of fright show and enter the planetarium to experience the wonder of optical illusions. Brick Live at the NEC – Thursday 27th until Sunday October 30th
Over three million bricks of LEGO will be arriving for another year at the NEC in Birmingham. The UK’s biggest celebration of LEGO will take place during the half term where the world’s best LEGO builders will come together to celebrate a whole range of professional and amateur displays. There will also be a live stage and entertainment as well as themed areas and plenty for the whole family to get involved in. Find out more here.

Music my Map at South Yardley Library – Tuesday October 25th, 1pm – 4pm.
Join Birmingham Contemporary Music Group for a drop in workshop and explore ideas through drawing and sound with a chance to use musical instruments. The workshops, which the kids are bound to enjoy, aim to get their imaginations going with them thinking about the shapes, textures and colours of their local area and what patterns would be created if we were to map the journeys we make every day. We’re Going On A Bear Hunt at The Old Rep – Thursday October 20th – 22nd
Based on one of the most popular children’s books of all time, We’re Going on a Bear Hunt is coming to the stage during half term. The play follows the wonderful tale of a family who go on an adventure through grassy banks, cold rivers and dark forests, but what will they find? Find out more here.
