Staffordshire housing scheme named best regeneration project

A STAFFORDSHIRE housing scheme has been named as the best regeneration of the year at a leading awards.

Branston Leas, which has been delivered by St. Modwen Homes, took home the title at this year’s national Housebuilder Awards.

The scheme, situated three miles from the centre of Burton-on-Trent, fought off stiff competition from eight other finalists; half of which are located in London.

The judges awarded Branston Leas the top accolade due to the measurable economic, environmental and educational improvements the development was bringing to the local area.

Dave Smith, managing director at St. Modwen Homes, said: “St. Modwen prides itself on its successful approach to regeneration. We understand that real regeneration is about more than just building new homes, offices or shops; it’s about transforming an area to benefit the local community. This includes working with local people and various organisations to ensure that we really are delivering the best development possible.”

To date, the firm has delivered 64 new homes at the site, with construction underway on the next 204 properties.

Additionally, more than 90,000 hours of employment have been created, with 1,500 new jobs due to be generated throughout the entire development. St. Modwen has also extended the local school, Rykneld Primary School, providing 160 new school places.

Additionally, working with Staffordshire Wildlife Trust and The Woodlands Trust, the company sought to generate long-term environmental benefits for the site. Around 17,000 trees have already been planted at Branston Leas Wood, these will become part of the National Forest when complete. There are still around 3,500 more trees to be planted. Additionally, 80,000 bluebell seeds have been scattered; many with the help of the local community.

“Branston Leas continues to be one of our most popular developments and I know that our new homeowners will be delighted to know they now live in award-winning homes,” added Mr Smith.
