Liberty Park clears initial planning hurdle

PLANS for the first phase of £38m warehouse development in Staffordshire have been given the green light.

Stoford and Liberty Property Trust are partners in the Liberty Park project in Lichfield.

The phase approved by Lichfield District Council is for three industrial units, ranging in size from 27,000 sq ft to 31,500 sq ft to 103,000 sq ft. The latter is likely to attract a lot of interest as the 100,000 sq ft market is in high demand.

Stoford and Liberty have said the units are immediately deliverable and can be completed within eight months.

Liberty’s managing director, Andrew Blevins, said: “It is fantastic news that Liberty Park has been awarded detailed planning consent. The scheme is in an excellent location adjacent to the A38 and we’re in no doubt that it will be in high-demand.”

Tony Nash, director at Stoford, added: “We’re delighted to have been granted planning consent for Liberty Park, Lichfield. There is a lack of suitable, high-quality industrial space in the region and we’re confident that these three units will not be on the market for long.”

Work on the infrastructure of the site began in 2015 with the replacement bridge over the West Coast Mainline completing in January 2016. The bridge was the first business development project backed by the Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire Local Enterprise Partnership’s Growth Deal to get underway in Staffordshire.

The work was carried out by Staffordshire County Council and was paid for from the LEP’s Growth Deal funding allocation from the Government, with additional financial contributions from Liberty Property Trust. It paves the way for the construction of the new industrial and warehouse units.
