TAKE-up in the Leeds city centre office market fell by 53% in the second quarter of 2009, according to the latest research by BNP Paribas Real Estate.
The quarter saw 49,056 sq ft of new space being occupied compared to 103,451 sq ft over the first quarter taking the total take-up for the first half of the year to 152,507 sq ft.
Michael Leonard, director of the Leeds office agency at BNP Paribas Real Estate, said: “Despite decline in take-up for the Q2 period the sentiment of those in Leeds remains confident of seeing increased take-up in the second half of the year as a result of new enquiries coming in to the market.
“Many of the deals that took place from April to June this year were for smaller suites with most transactions being for 1,000 sq ft to 2,000 sq ft suites.
“We hope to see recovery in the office market towards the end of the year and believe that Leeds is particularly well placed to meet a variety of requirements in terms of the quality of properties, amenities and transport links that the region boasts.”
