National Express speeds ahead with office space

BUS and train operator National Express has taken 22,000 sq ft of office space in York.

Acting on behalf of the Department for Children, Schools and Families, DTZ has completed a lease assignment to National Express at Albion Wharf.

National Express has taken the city centre building on confidential terms and the letting is believed to be one of the largest in York in recent years.

The deal follows the successful bid by National Express to take over the running of the East Coast Mainline from GNER.

Albion Wharf is situated in a prominent position on the south bank of the River Ouse within the city walls and close to the train station. The building will provide a new office in York for National Express and will be substantially refurbished prior to occupation.

Phillip Dawson, associate director at DTZ, said: “Albion Wharf has been one of largest available modern offices in the city in recent times and received a great deal of interest.

“York’s city centre office market remains tight due to restricted supply and planning restrictions. Occupiers seeking large floor plates in modern buildings are often disappointed.”
