Projex looks to build on growth

BUILDING surveyors and project managers Projex Building Solutions has agreed a new financing package as it embarks on an expansion programme following a recent merger.

Projex was established in April 2009 by a group of professionals including Phil Tomalin, of the Leeds office of building consultancy CNP.

Leeds-based Projex recently relocated its Leeds office to Brewery Wharf and merged with Stratford-based construction cost consultancy Keane Consult.

Mr Tomalin, managing partner, said Projex’s new financial package with Santander Corporate Banking would help the business grow and double its present annual turnover of £600,000.

Projex is opening a further base in Henley-in-Arden in Warwickshire and will now boast three bases. The company has 12 staff, eight of whom are in Leeds.

The expansion strategy also comes on the back of a number of new contracts, including a deal to project manage and provide cost consultancy advice on a £30m mixed-use scheme in Northampton for LXB, the Jersey-based retail investment specialist.

Commenting on the merger with Consult, Mr Tomalin said: “The Midlands’ partners are vastly experienced in all aspects of the construction management process and have worked on major UK projects such as the £32m refurbishment of Waterloo Station and the £12m refurbishment of T1 at Heathrow Airport, as well as projects closer to home such as the cost consultancy on Bridgewater Place, Leeds’ tallest building, for Landmark Developments.

“The extended skills set we can now offer and continued hands-on approach from partners is already paying dividends in winning exciting new contracts such as The Lakes, and we are currently looking at pipeline schemes across retail, healthcare, office and industrial sectors with a combined value in excess of £60m.”

Hardeep Thandi, a Santander relationship manager based in Leeds, said: ”We are pleased to have been able to put the right financing solution together to be able to help support Projex’s future growth strategy.

“Projex has a fantastic market proposition, providing unique services to the highly specialised construction sector and we wish them every success going forward.”

Projex is also advising Gregory Property Group on its £35m Broad Street Plaza scheme in Halifax town centre.
