A 5,100 sq ft extension is being built at a leisure centre in North Yorkshire as part of a £2.5m investment.

ISG has been awarded a contract by Alliance Leisure to deliver the scheme Hambleton Leisure Centre in Northallerton.

The extension will house a gym and toning area to allow the current gym space to be converted into studios, including an immersive spinning studio. New energy-efficient lighting will also be installed in the sports hall and the timber sprung floor will be upgraded.

James Foley, commercial director at Alliance Leisure, added: “The planned works will breathe new life into the leisure provision in Hambleton and expand the choice of activities open to the community, offering something for everyone for many years to come.”

Andy McLinden, managing director of ISG’s UK Construction North and Scotland business, said: “Our team will be working in a live environment to deliver this important improvement project for the local community. We have had a framework agreement with Alliance Leisure since 2010, which is built around Sport England’s need to engage people in fitness initiatives.

“This is putting government-funded provision in direct competition with the commercial sector as they now boast top of the range facilities.”

The centre, which is run by Hambleton District Council, is due for completion at the end of the year.
