Planning consent secured for up to 800 homes

Taylor Wimpey Yorkshire has secured outline planning approval from Leeds City Council for a large-scale development in Wetherby.

Comprising up to 800 new homes, a convenience store, primary school and public open spaces, the 98-acre site, named Swinnow Park, the house builder says it will bring at least 2,700 jobs and more than £7m in community funding to the area.

It will include two-to-five-bedroom residences, 35% of which will be affordable housing.

And it is estimated that 85 construction jobs per annum will be generated over the duration of Swinnow Park’s build period, with a further 125 supply chain jobs supported per annum as a result of the proposals.

The community investment of more than £7m will pay for additional planting of indigenous tree and hedgerow species, creation of a sustainable travel fund and a contribution of £2.7m towards a new two-form entry primary school.

James Poynor, managing director at Taylor Wimpey Yorkshire, said: “We are absolutely thrilled that Leeds City Council has approved our proposals, not only as they will provide critically-important housing, but because they will deliver an abundance of wider economic benefits for the community.

“This is an important step in enabling us to bring this allocated site forward, one that we’ve been committed to for many years and we’re now looking positively to the next stage in our journey to bring a new community to Wetherby.”

A detailed reserved matters application will now be progressed in liaison with both Leeds City Council and local groups.
