Yorkshire gains new Michelin star restaurants

A Ripon fine dining restaurant which opened 18 months ago has been awarded a prestigious Michelin star.

Shaun Rankin at Grantley Hall is one of the three new restaurants to have received a stars in the Michelin Guide 2021.

The other new additions into the guide include sister restaurants The Black Swan in Oldstead  and Roots in York by chef patron Tommy Banks. With The Black Swan which has already achieved a Michelin star, joining a special group across the UK and Ireland to receive the guide’s first “green star” which recognises its commitments to sustainably sourced produce.

In a post on social media Shaun Rankin, a Yorkshire native who trained at The Mayfair Hotel in London and currently runs Ormer Mayfair as well as Shaun Rankin at Grantley Hall said: “Thank you so much to [the Michelin Guide] for this amazing award – one star Michelin! Myself and the whole team at the [restaurant] and grantley Hall are just in joy at this evenings announcement.”

The restaurant added: ” 18 months ago we opened our doors for the first time and no one could’ve predicted the challenging times we’ve all been faced with since then. It has made being awarded a Michelin star even more special for us.”

The restaurants which have retained their Michelin stars for 2021 include: The Angel at Hetton, Black Swan, Man Behind the Curtain, Pipe and Glass and the Star Inn.
