Nearly 100 homes to be built on 3.9-acre site

A development of nearly 100 houses is to be constructed near Sheffield.

The Yorkshire division of national homebuilder, Bellway Homes says its new scheme in Swallownest will boost the local economy and create new jobs.

The 99-home development, which will comprise a mix of three-bedroom townhouses, three-bedroom detached and semi-detached homes, and four-bedroom detached properties, will be built on a 3.9-acre site to the east of Park Hill Farm in Park Hill, Swallownest. Work is due to start later this month.

Paul Thornton, divisional planning manager of Bellway Yorkshire, said: “New housing developments aren’t universally popular, but they do bring significant economic benefits to local communities that are often overlooked.

“Our Swallownest development will create upwards of 20 jobs during the construction phase, and when sales commence and people start moving-in they will be bringing new money into the area and spending it locally, which will be a real boost for local business.

“On top of that there’ll also be education and infrastructure improvements made as a result of the substantial Section 106 / Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) contributions that we as a housebuilder make to the Local Authority during our time on site.”

The amount being invested comes to over £650,000 and includes a £331,000 CIL payment that will be spent on local infrastructure; £233,000 on education, close to £50,000 on sustainable transport, £34,000 on tree maintenance; the provision of 17 affordable homes; and the building of a play area on site.

Thornton added: “When planning to build anywhere our intention is that the development quickly becomes an accepted part of the local community, rather than being seen as the unwanted newcomer sitting prettily on the edge of it.

“The plans represent an addition to Swallownest that we strongly believe will enhance and enrich the local community.”

Bellway Homes anticipate sales beginning in Swallownest in December, with the first residents moving in later in summer 2022.
