770 homes site is put on the market

Property company, JLL, has brought over 100 acres of land to the market on the outskirts of Huddersfield.

The site represents Kirklees Council’s largest individual housing allocation to date.

It has been used since the 1850s for a number of purposes including a sandstone quarry, firework factory and as a munitions manufacturer during the Second World War. It has been brought to the market with outline planning for 770 new homes.

Housing will be delivered predominantly on the brownfield element of the site, with the greenfield offering public open space.

The planning also includes a care facility, which will provide up to 70 residential apartments, a doctor’s surgery and some commercial space.

The land is off Blackmoorfoot Road to the south west of Huddersfield town centre.

James Mohammed, director at JLL, said: “The need for good quality housing continues to be in high demand across the region, with supply still restricted, so it is fantastic to be able to bring this site to market in a highly desirable area.

“The land has a rich and diverse history, which makes it an even more interesting project to be involved with and we look forward to seeing it in the next phase of its evolution.

“The appetite for residential development land, particularly of this quantum and with planning consent in place, remains extremely high and so we anticipate it will generate considerable interest from regional and national house builders.”
